Today is Love Your Body Day!
The NOW Foundation’s Women’s Health Project launched the Love Your Body campaign in Sept. 1998 as a national day of action to speak out against advertisements and images of women that are harmful, offensive, disrespectful and demeaning.
Each year, on Love Your Body Day, activists around the country say “no” to twisted beauty standards thru a variety of body positive events including these great suggestions:
Host an ‘Indulgence Party’— Encourage guests to wear whatever makes them feel good—sweat suits, flip flops, pajamas—and serve delicious, decadent foods or silly snacks without the guilt.
Stage a ‘Real Women Beauty Pageant’— Not only do pageants uphold certain beauty standards that are dangerous and nearly impossible to attain, they pit women against each other. Subvert this
Commit to a Healthy Lifestyle — Help others gain the resources to live a healthy lifestyle.
Celebrate at School — Elementary, middle-school and high school girls can get involved, too!
Don’t forget that every day can be Love Your Body Day! Try some of these tips to reinforce your self-love every day of the year:
Write down 5 ways to love yourself each morning before you even start your day.
Buy yourself flowers.
Make a happy box. This is simply a box of goodness- notes, photos, mementos- that make you smile.
List 7 reasons why your hardest challenges or worst mistakes or most unloved qualities have been a beautiful thing for you.
Take a break from technology.
Sip some hot tea or wine or both.
